How to Import Indian Home Décor: MOQ, Incoterms & What to Expect
If you are a retailer, interior designer, or hospitality buyer considering sourcing home décor and handicrafts from India for the first time, this guide covers the practical questions we hear most often.
What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
MOQ varies by product category and whether you are ordering samples or production quantities. As a general guide:
Sample orders: most products can be sampled in 1 piece. We recommend ordering 3–5 samples per product before committing to a production run to assess quality, dimensions, and finish.
Production orders: typically start from 10–25 pieces per SKU for stone and marble products, and 5–10 pieces for carpets. Jute and textile products usually have higher MOQs (50–100 pieces) due to production batch minimums. Custom orders (bespoke sizes, finishes, or private labelling) generally require higher MOQs — we will advise on a case-by-case basis.
What Incoterms do you offer?
We ship on FOB (Free on Board) terms as standard — meaning we deliver goods to the port of origin, loaded onto your nominated vessel. You arrange and pay for international freight from that point. This is the most common arrangement for established buyer-supplier relationships.
For first-time buyers or smaller shipments, we can also arrange CIF (Cost, Insurance & Freight), where we manage and include the cost of freight and insurance to your destination port. Door-to-door delivery is available for air freight shipments.
What are typical lead times?
Lead times depend on product complexity and whether items are in stock or made to order. As a general guide: stone and marble products — 4–10 weeks. Hand-knotted carpets — 6–14 weeks. Wood carvings — 4–8 weeks. Jute and textile products — 3–6 weeks. Rush orders may be possible for some products — ask us.
How is quality assured?
We conduct in-house quality checks at two stages: immediately after production (before packing) and again before dispatch. We send photo and video documentation of your order at both stages. For high-value orders, third-party inspection can be arranged at your request.
All products are packed in export-grade material appropriate to the item — bubble wrap and foam for fragile stone pieces, custom wooden crating for large sculptures, vacuum-sealed bags for textiles.
What documentation do you provide?
Standard export documentation includes: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading or Airway Bill, Certificate of Origin, and GST Export Invoice. For products that require them, we can provide CITES certificates (for certain natural materials) and phytosanitary certificates (for wood products), depending on your destination country’s import requirements.
How do I get started?
The simplest starting point is to send us an inquiry with your product category of interest, approximate quantities, and target market. We will respond within 24 hours with a product selection, indicative pricing, and sample availability. From there, we typically recommend a sample order before moving to production.
We work with buyers across the USA, UK, EU, the Gulf, and Asia. Whether you are a boutique retailer buying 20 pieces or a hospitality group needing 500, we are set up to help.
